Yes, I have built it already since then and I was able used it to solve the problem I was working on for another package ;-) Unfortunately, I don't know enough about Debian's packaging guidelines to suggest how to avoid this problem in the future or, better yet, how to cause this package to be rebuilt every time libbfd's soname changes.
