tags 429023 confirmed thanks I was planning on looking at this again after the base PAM libraries are upgraded sometime during the lenny development cycle - looks like libpam-unix2 needs functions in a newer version of libpam than 0.79.
If someone really needs this working in unstable in the interim and wants to provide a patch, I'd be happy to apply it and upload.
