I duplicated it on 2.6.8-5-sparc64-smp on a sarge system.
This bug was also fixed in 2.6.8 series (#287287), in kernel-source-2.6.8 2.6.8-11. According to changelog [0], the first kernel-image for sparc built from this k-s version is 2.6.8-6. It is very unfortunate that it did not make it into sarge :-(.
