When installing a kernel 2.6.21 or highter with PATA drivers,
devices /dev/hda1 or /dev/hdb1 pass to /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 but in
menu.lst of GRUB is written /dev/hda1 as root file system, this cause that
kernel cannot boot. There is to change edit manualy menu.lst and
write /dev/sda1 as root file system.
