Package: sendmail-bin
Version: 8.14.1-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi

I have to send this report with an old version of sendmail, because
8.14.1-4 didn't even start to be able to send it.

Latest sendmail versions on ppc, 8.14.1-4 and 8.14.1-2 were both crashing
with a message like this, when trying to start sendmail via
'/etc/init.d/sendmail start' (or, according to my notes, via
'/etc/init.d/sendmail force-reload')

I get this with 8.14.1-4:

# /etc/init.d/sendmail start
Starting Mail Transport Agent (MTA): sendmail/etc/init.d/sendmail:
line 224: 24144 Segmentation fault $CMD

# /etc/init.d/sendmail status
MSP: is run via cron (20m)
MTA: is not running
QUE: Same as MTA

And yes: I followed the instructions in 'NEWS.Debian.gz' from sendmail-doc
(I had to modify them because there is no, e.g.,
'/usr/share/sendmail/examples/starttls.m4'):

# chown smmta:smmsp /etc/sasldb2
# dpkg-statoverride --remove /var/run/saslauthd
# dpkg-statoverride --add root sasl 711 /var/run/saslauthd
# cp /usr/share/sendmail/examples/sasl/sasl.m4 /etc/mail/sasl/sasl.m4
cp: overwrite `/etc/mail/sasl/sasl.m4'? y
`/usr/share/sendmail/examples/sasl/sasl.m4' -> `/etc/mail/sasl/sasl.m4'
# cp /usr/share/sendmail/examples/tls/starttls.m4 /etc/mail/tls/starttls.m4
cp: overwrite `/etc/mail/tls/starttls.m4'? y
`/usr/share/sendmail/examples/tls/starttls.m4' -> `/etc/mail/tls/starttls.m4

No problems with 8.13.8-3, except the one that annoys all
latest sendmail versions, when running 'sendmailconfig':

makemap: /etc/mail/authinfo.new.db: line 4: key authinfo:mail.[removed].de:
duplicate key

The latter does not prevent 8.13.8-3 from working like a charm, IINM.

TIA

Regards
Wolfgang

Sendmail 8.14.1-4, after the upgrade mentioned above, still seems to
work here. So I close the bug. Be free to re-open it if you think
there are still issues about the problems we were discussing here.

Thanks.
