can you send the contents of the log files in /var/log/tomcat5.5, and also the output seen in /var/log/tomcat5.5/catalina.out as you start Tomcat. Does this also happen if you do "/etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 start" from the command line? The problem is almost certainly fixed in sid which uses a different startup mechanism. You might try to install that version after forcibly installing jsvc from sid (with dpkg using --force-depends to prevent the libc6 upgrade). Regards, Marcus
