In that case, you really haven't given any reason at all to think that this
is a bug in gdm, or that it's anything other than a configuration error on
your local system.  Reassigning to xbase-clients, which is the package that
provides the "startx" command; the X maintainers will more likely be able to
help you figure out why startx doesn't work for you.
