severity 297898 important
thanks

Thanks for the report.

The postinst fails because in your case /etc/network/run points
to /dev/shm/network prior to installation but /dev/shm/network does not
exist at that time. The failure does _not_ occur if /etc/network/run is
absent when the package is installed (because in that case the postinst
creates the directory) or if /etc/network/run points to /dev/shm/network
and /dev/shm/network/ does exist. Thus the postinst fails in a
relatively rare case. Because of this and because the same bug was also
present in the previous version, I am downgrading the report below RC
level.

Nevertheless, the bug is important and must be fixed. Please test
ifupdown version 0.6.4-4.12~rc1 which I have made available at
http://www.aglu.demon.nl/ifupdown. I attach the postinst if you prefer
just to test that.
