This did not work. I did it twice just to be sure.
When I compose a new message, I click the OpenPGP button to select Sign Message and Encrypt Message options and then click OK. If I click the drop down menu next to the OpenPGP button those options are not checked, they are also not checked if I click on the button itself (not just the drop down) a second time. It appears that all of the widgets exist, but are completely non-functional.

Wierd ... you see any problems in the about -> enigmail dialog? Which version is listed there?

I'm also unable to get any sort of logging. Specifying a directory or a file explicitly does not create a log file, and when I try to view the log from the Enigmail menu it complains that the log has not been created yet. If I view the console all it says is "ENIGMAIL CONSOLE". No other text is ever added to the console.

Looks like the enigmail components are not registered correctly. Before we fix that I need more information:

How did you get started with your thunderbird profile?

Which version do you come from (did you upgrade)? Did enigmail ever work? Have you ever been asked to restart thunderbird after upgrade or extension install? Do inspector and typeaheadfind work as expected?
