I cannot edit a conffile, and changing timidity.cfg to a config file and later editing it is Not Going to Be Done in the near future. It would be possible to extend timidity to have a non-fatal include directive (i.e. include if it is in there), or maybe a include all-files-in-directory functionality. That would take care of things, I think. But such timidity changes would still cause righteous anger on anyone that installed freepats only to have it override (now in a non-destructive way) their much better patchset.
