Recompiling potion against current libevent headers seems to be enough to fix this bug -- looks like libevent broke ABI compatibility between 0.8 and 1.0 without changing the soname. :P
Since this version of libevent is already in testing and libevent was not in woody, it's probably better to just rebuild potion instead of trying to correct libevent's soname now. Please upload a fixed potion binary ASAP. It would be good if someone could also look at libevent1's other reverse-dependencies, to check for similar breakage.
