There is no error message, but a subsequent hdparm -I /dev/hda reports that write caching is still enabled. This was working correctly in version 4.5-1.2 (stable) and is failing in version 5.8-1 (testing). This bug is serious because journalled file systems such as ext3 can only guarantee no data loss/corruption if the hardware write caching is turned off. So I have marked this bug as "critical". --------------------------------------- Received: (at 293378-close) by bugs.debian.org; 4 Feb 2005 14:23:18 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Feb 04 06:23:18 2005 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from newraff.debian.org [208.185.25.31] (mail) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1Cx4Mg-0004yY-00; Fri, 04 Feb 2005 06:23:18 -0800 Received: from katie by newraff.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1Cx4HN-0008JT-00; Fri, 04 Feb 2005 09:17:49 -0500 From: Stephen Gran <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.55 $ Subject: Bug#293378: fixed in hdparm 5.9-1 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Fri, 04 Feb 2005 09:17:49 -0500 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 X-Spam-Level: Source: hdparm Source-Version: 5.9-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of hdparm, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: hdparm-udeb_5.9-1_i386.udeb to pool/main/h/hdparm/hdparm-udeb_5.9-1_i386.udeb hdparm_5.9-1.diff.gz to pool/main/h/hdparm/hdparm_5.9-1.diff.gz hdparm_5.9-1.dsc to pool/main/h/hdparm/hdparm_5.9-1.dsc hdparm_5.9-1_i386.deb to pool/main/h/hdparm/hdparm_5.9-1_i386.deb hdparm_5.9.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/h/hdparm/hdparm_5.9.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
