However this file is shipped in the package but not marked as a conffile. This means all local configuration of this file will be lost on upgrade. All menu-methods are conffiles and since this one include some color setting it is reasonnable to expect the user to change it, and it is important to preserve user change across upgrade. Independently of this bug, I offer to send you an updated menu-method more in line with current Debian menu recommendation.
