Hi, going to the RC bugs I saw this one and having worked on other packages that reuse debs or sources I have some things to add:
1. You can not assume /etc/apt/sources.list or even network access is functional inside the buildd chroot. You may not use the outside network at all during build. This is an unwritten policy. 2. You can not include (GPL) binaries in a deb without including the source in the source package. Your gibraltar-bootcd deb can stay around for a long time while the sources/debs you used get updated. That would mean that you have binaries without source in your deb. That is a violation of the DFSG for one thing and a violation of the binaries licences. Compare with amd64-libs, which is the latest such package being added to debian. ftp-master insisted on amd64-libs having sources included.
