I fixed the problem following the instructions stated in the question&answer 24 of this FAQ: http://www.mathi.uni-heidelberg.de/~flight/stepTeX/teTeX-FAQ
What I did was to comment some of the languages in languages.dat until
it started working. I have to say that I never selected those languages,
uncommented those lines or anything like that. I guess that something,
maybe not directly related to tetex-bin, changed my language.dat without
telling me about it.
I'm attaching the /etc/texmf/language.dat that worked.
