This is an interesting idea to me, since etckeeper uses metastore and
has a separate mechanism to handle empty directories.

It occurs to me that a wrapper around metastore could just use metastore -c
to list missing directories:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc>rmdir foo
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc>metastore -c
./foo:  removed 

Only problem is there's no way to tell that foo is supposed to be an empty
directory, rather than some other sort of file.
