Could you file a new report against pulseaudio summarizing the problem and your suggested fix and mentioning <http://bugs.debian.org/660111> for background? Then we (or the kernel team) can separately pursue a jack detection backport and figure out what to do on the kernel side, if anything, to support upgrades cleanly.
