That is why I suggested removing it between shutdown (when they are recorded) and system initialization (when they are restored), making sure to remove power so the sound card would not have any lingering state either, to see what value the "auto-mute mode" control gets for new installations. If it defaults to false, that would be a bug that we could pursue upstream. Similarly, I am still very interested to see what value the "auto-mute mode" control gets on upgrade from squeeze, hence the second set of instructions.
