Thanks for another detailed report. Enough information to see what is going on and what the issues are. I have found the two points you mention already in the BTS. Merging this report with the first of those as it appears you consider that the main issue. No ETA on when these will be tidied up but I agree that "apt-get purge foo" and "aptitude purge foo" having different semantics here is problematic.
