Package: ttf-malayalam-fonts Version: 1:0.5.14 This is not a very serious problem for end-users but it could be a problem for those that are hacking on fonts. Especially when a font is GPL and there are potentially derivatives, even the internals of the font should be ideally maintained correctly.
Both in the currently distributed Rachana font and in the Rachana font in the Savannah repository, the internal glyph for 0D4C MALAYALAM VOWEL SIGN AU is given as purely the right-half glyph of ൌ, i.e. the glyph of 0D57 MALAYALAM AU LENGTH MARK ൗ. However, the two part vowel signs are normally internally shown as containing both the components within a single glyph. Refer the glyphs within the font for 0D4A MALAYALAM VOWEL SIGN O, 0D4B MALAYALAM VOWEL SIGN OO. It is suggested that likewise the internal glyph for 0D4C MALAYALAM VOWEL SIGN AU should also be made likewise. I have attached the required glyph as TTF format. (I hope the bug report system will accept email attachments.) Please replace the internal glyph for 0D4C MALAYALAM VOWEL SIGN AU with the attached glyph, so that whoever is working on corrections or derivatives to this font can be aware that it is a placeholder for the two-part vowel sign. While the final rendering will be coming correctly for all two-part vowel signs because the rendering engine will actually use the separate components, it is advisable to have the correct glyphs inside the font for consistency and clarity. -- Shriramana Sharma
