It does not get to the point where it would ask me about the
configuration. Installation stops before that.
/etc/mailname is "lantan.selune\".
Why?
I just took the backslash out and
ran 'dpkg --configure exim4-config' - see below.
Try purging and re-installing the packages, and see what happens.
