Package: iceweasel Version: 10.0.1-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
I often use xclip to enter standard input (ASCII text) into a copy buffer which then I can paste into other applications like iceweasel. I've never had a problem with this until today. I can copy input to xclip, either use the primary copy buffer in X, or specify the clipboard (via the -selection switch in xclip). If the copied text has a couple special characters in it, seems to cause firefox to switch over to UTF-8 when I try to paste the contains into a text window, so I end up seeing a lot of Chinese. If I remove the spurious special character, it will paste in good old fashion ASCII. This is not behavior I see from going from xclip to lowriter, it stayed in ASCII, so this is why I think it is a problem with iceweasel. I tried changing my default locale and starting iceweasel in safe mode, but I had similar results. Why would one special character cause it to switch to, I assume, UTF-8 or an extended character set? -- Package-specific info: -- Addons package information -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-1-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages iceweasel depends on: ii debianutils 4.2.1 ii fontconfig 2.8.0-3.1 ii libc6 2.13-26 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.24.1-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.30.2-6 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.9-2 ii libnspr4-0d 4.9~beta5-2 ii libstdc++6 4.6.2-14 ii procps 1:3.3.2-3 ii xulrunner-10.0 10.0.1-1 iceweasel recommends no packages.
