I just tried the patched fglrx_drv.so and it fails with the same error (no screens found) as you reported. So you don't have to retest. I tried a different replacement, but now I crashed the machine remotely. (I also tried a kernel module built with ld.gold at the same time ...) I'll do more tests tomorrow.
