libpng2/libpng10 are gone, gone, gone.

It seems odd to rebuild this package against libpng12,
given that it is explicitly a package for use with the old libpng.
What's going on here -- does imlib expose parts of the libpng ABI?

However, imlib11 (the package for the new libpng) depends on imlib-base and
suggests imlib-progs. So those two packages need to be provided by
something. (Perhaps imlib-progs should be dropped, I don't know; if so,
that simplifies things a little.)

Also, there's a startling amount of stuff which depends on gdk-imlib1.

If imlib *doesn't* expose the libpng ABI, it would definitely be worthwhile
to transition this package to the new libpng while keeping the same interface
to packages higher in the dependency tree.

If imlib does expose the libpng ABI, I see two reasonable alternatives:
(1) Upload a new version of imlib11 which produces imlib-base, and perhaps
    a transitioned imlib-progs.
Then ask the FTPmasters to remove all of imlib+png2 from unstable.
(2) Upload a new version of imlib+png2 (perhaps renamed) which produces
    only imlib-base, and a transitioned imlib-progs.
Ask the FTPmasters to remove the obsolete binary packages from unstable.
It looks like uninstallability of gdk-imlib1 breaks most of gnome1, so
in this case there's going to be a lot more stuff which will need to
be removed or transitioned; notifying the maintainers of the reverse
depending packages would be a good thing in this case.

This is moderately urgent -- this is bound to tangle up transitions into
testing in its current state -- and also rather complicated. Tell me if
I can help.
