You could try [...] Many thanks for the answer. I found the error, it was in no way related to the upgrade of apache. (I modified fstab the last days but accidentially picked the wrong line. This resulted in a noexec mount option for the partition which containes the users' home directories. This of course spoils the user's CGI scripts. Unfortunatelly this coincided with the package upgrade.) So I beg you pardon for the noise.
