Package: install Severity: important sarge 3.1r0a 1386 net bug when trying to install with software RAID Using 3-Ware 8506-12, 12 port SATA controller regardless of 2.4 or 2.6 kernel. After setting up partitions & soft RAID the setup would hang when installing the kernel if more than 8 disks were used as active or spare.
Cause : Found that only sda - sdh were created and defined as devices in /dev. The 3ware driver saw the disks but mdadm and fdisk did not. Solution: Installed onto 2 drives RAID I, Created block devices sdi - sdl w/ corresponding partitions sd[?]1-15.fdisk and mdadm were then able to partition and setup RAIDs. Was able to make RAID 5 with 12 devices. FYI hardware /dev/sd[a-l] must have minor number multiple of 16 to work. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-686-smp Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
