This works here (and is basically the whole purpose of git-import-dscs):

$ git-import-dscs  tack*dsc
gbp:info: No git repository found, creating one.
Initialized empty Git repository in /tmp/tack/.git/
gbp:info: Tag upstream/1.06 not found, importing Upstream tarball
pristine-tar: committed tack_1.06.orig.tar.gz.delta to branch pristine-tar
gbp:info: Version '1.06-7' imported under 'tack'
gbp:info: Version '1.06-9' imported under 'tack'
gbp:info: Everything imported under /tmp/tack

Could you provide a testcase?
Cheers,
