You should not close a bug that way. Instead you send a mail to
564955-d...@bugs.debian.org and you put a "Version: 1.15.8" pseudo-header
as the first line of your mail.

Otherwise the bug submitter doesn't receive any explanation about
the bug closure.

And in this particular case, you made a mistake. While the original bug
reporter complained of the update-alternatives logging in
/var/log/dpkg.log, it's pretty clear that he doesn't want any logging at
all... so that's why Guillem retitled the bug report into "u-a: Provide a
way to disable logging".

And this doesn't exist yet (at least not system-wide) because
update-alternatives will always write to /var/log/update-alternatives.log
and there's no way to disable that.

If you're not sure whether or not a bug can be closed, feel free to
just send a mail explaining the reasons why you believe that a bug can be
closed. If I agree with your reasoning, I'll close it, otherwise I'll
explain you why it should be kept open.
