acpi is not involved at all, it's acpi-support that tries restarting acpid. > Is acpid and acpi-support-base only for the power button on the case? Yes, if acpi-support is not installed but only acpi-support-base, then it only reacts on the power button. It doesn't do anything if any other power management software is running, though. If you're using kde or gnome you probably have the build-in power management running instead of the one provided by acpi-support-base.
