Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [O] Install boot loader: [O] Reboot: [O] Comments/Problems: <Everything went fine up through the reboot. When I first entered the apt configuration part of the install, I selected ftp.debian.org, which was not a good choice since I am in the U.S., but I could not go back to change it. Unlike the expert mode, it did _not_ ask me if I wished to configure alternate mirrors. I then selected the tasks desktop environment, web server, file server, mail server, SQL server and standard system. I also agreed to the popularity contest script. This configuration failed to install, though the error messages were displayed for too short a time to figure out what had gone wrong. The text screen that appeared just said to try a different set of selections. That is not helpful as I did not want a partial system installed. Removing the popularity contest script still led to a failed install, as did retrying the same set of tasks one more time. I then went back to the apt config area of the installer and set up the ftp.us.debian.org mirror, and _then_ it asked me if I wanted any others as it should. This should have been an option when I mistakenly first chose ftp.debian.org, but it wasn't. I configured two other mirrors. I also noticed that it asked if I wanted to used the security.debian.org site, which is incorrect for the testing distribution, but I said OK anyway. The install failed again. I thought that perhaps the choice of security site was the problem, since the suggested site was for the stable configuration. Redoing the apt config section, I selected two different mirrors and declined to use the security.debian.org site. It did not ask me if I wanted the popularity contest again. The install failed again. I am out of ideas, since I cannot see the error messages that flashed by so quickly. I will have to go back to a the stable Sarge installer and then manually upgrade to testing.> Regards, Seth Goodman Goodman Associates, LLC tel 608.833.9933 fax 608.833.9966 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
