I have reported this upstream. This is [ 1303161 ] Canon BJC-250 output is too light https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1303161&group_id=1537&atid=101537 I'm afraid that Canon do not provide open specifications for their printers, and as a result the canon driver was reverse engineered. Its quality on different Canon models varies, and it does not currently have a maintainer, though work is currently in progress to support newer PIXMA models. If it's a straightforward change, I think it's fixable.
