I'm sorry if I missed any of you people's mails to reply. I normally try to make sure that I provide adequate amount of information to the maintainers for the bugs I file and the bugs I monitor. > > > Setting up logcheck (1.2.41) ... > > adduser: The user `logcheck' does not exist. > > chown: `logcheck:logcheck': invalid user > > chown: `logcheck:logcheck': invalid user > > > please send the output of the following commands: > getent passwd logcheck Nothing is shown upon execution > getent group logcheck logcheck:x:118: > getent group adm adm:x:4:rrs,Debian-console-log > mount [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ # mount /dev/mapper/VG--IDE0-LV--ROOT on / type reiser4 (rw) proc on /proc type proc (rw) sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620) tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw) /dev/hda1 on /boot type ext2 (rw) /dev/mapper/VG--IDE0-LV--HOME on /home type reiser4 (rw) /dev/mapper/VG--IDE0-LV--LOCAL on /usr/local type reiser4 (rw) tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw,size=10M,mode=0755) none on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw) automount(pid5985) on /mnt type autofs (rw,fd=4,pgrp=5985,minproto=2,maxproto=4) none on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw) > ls -ld /var/lock/logcheck [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ # ls -ld /var/lock/logcheck/ drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2 2005-09-23 22:17 /var/lock/logcheck// > ls -ld /etc/logcheck drwxr-xr-x 9 root logcheck 12 2005-09-23 22:17 /etc/logcheck// Setting up logcheck (1.2.41) ... useradd: unknown group logcheck adduser: `/usr/sbin/useradd -d /var/lib/logcheck -g logcheck -s /bin/false -u 118 logcheck' returned error code 6. The first error message says that there's no group named "logcheck" but if I look at syslog at the same time I see that the post/pre installation script did create a group named logcheck Sep 23 22:17:36 laptop groupadd[11231]: new group: name=logcheck, gid=118 Now the question is is the useradd command being executed before the group being added ? Maybe this could give you some help. Thanks for all your patience and help.
