Hi, I'm working on a new upstream release of audiofile and your package seems build-depend'ing on libaudiofile-dev pointlessly, so please remove libaudiofile-dev from the Build-Depends field. I've also prepared an NMU for avifile (versioned as 1:0.7.48~20090503.ds-9.1). The diff is attached to this message.
