Package: ntp Version: 1:4.2.6.p2+dfsg-1+b1 Severity: important
Dear ntp maintainers I realized the current ntpd and ntpdate in squeeze cannot successfuly synchronize against ntp servers running on Windows 2008 R2 (at least from what I can check against). This applies to both ntpd and ntpdate. Regular squeeze, here using ntpdate: root@<foo>:~# ntpdate -v pulsar 5 Jan 11:13:10 ntpdate[6636]: ntpdate 4.2.6p2@1.2194-o Sun Oct 17 13:35:14 UTC 2010 (1) 5 Jan 11:13:18 ntpdate[6636]: no server suitable for synchronization found Manually compiled next upstream release: root@<foo>:/usr/src/ntp-4.2.6p3/ntpdate# ./ntpdate -v pulsar 5 Jan 11:28:17 ntpdate[21156]: ntpdate 4.2.6p3@1.2290-o Thu Jan 5 10:26:35 UTC 2012 (1) 5 Jan 11:28:25 ntpdate[21156]: adjust time server 86.118.145.7 offset -0.007117 sec Thus current testing shouldn't be affected (4.2.6.p3+dfsg-1) Quite elder versions like in Ubuntu lucid (4.2.4p8) don't show this problem either. Unfortunately looking at upstream changelog didn't give me enough clue to locate the changes that fixed the bug upstream. --Mathieu -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=de_CH.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_CH.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ntp depends on: ii adduser 3.112+nmu2 add and remove users and groups ii dpkg 1.15.8.11 Debian package management system ii libc6 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcap2 1:2.19-3 support for getting/setting POSIX. ii libedit2 2.11-20080614-2 BSD editline and history libraries ii libopts25 1:5.10-1.1 automated option processing librar ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8o-4squeeze4 SSL shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.2-23.2squeeze1 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii netbase 4.45 Basic TCP/IP networking system Versions of packages ntp recommends: ii perl 5.10.1-17squeeze2 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction Versions of packages ntp suggests: pn ntp-doc <none> (no description available) -- Configuration Files: /etc/ntp.conf changed [not included] -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
