#debian's bot, dpkg, contains useful unix lessons for new users.

12:49 <dpkg> somebody said unix lessons was (1) Don't change the permissions, 
             (2) back up your data, (3) keep it simple, stupid, (4) read the 
             fscking manual, (5) don't fsck with package management, (6) don't 
             type anything you don't understand, (7) always have a boot floppy 
             or CD, (8) read your log files, (9) the FIRST error is the one 
             that counts, (10) don't leave your root shell until you TEST your 
             changes, (11) don't be root when you don't have to be

Perhaps we could refine this into an eleven commandments, at the start of the
reference?
