I have lxpanel deb 0.5.8-1 installed and lxpanelctl run works just as
intended.
lxpanelctl run shows the run dialog and find as you type works and
launching the resulting application works.

I am not sure that important is needed here as it is not confirmed.

You confirm the bug but talks about the actual panel not working; that
would be another issue and should be reported as such.
