I've checked again on a main-server installation, and the students group exist and creating a new teacher is added to the students group.
The KDEDIRS environment seem to be set as it should by desktop-profiles and contain /usr/share/debian-edu/students/, but the desktop icons in /usr/share/debian-edu/students/ do not seem to take effect. The KDE menu reordering on the other hand seem to work just fine. :) But if the point is to provid easy access for changing the password, perhaps it is better to find a GUI kerberos tool to change it instead of sending users to a Gosa page? I tried with kpasswd (the cli), and it worked just fine. kdepasswd did not work, neither did passwd.
