the hack is too dirty as it does not address the "uts" version string and it 
will still cause to kernel breaking as the version number will suddenly re-
appear in the name of the modules directory, very possibly rendering the built 
kernel useless.

The '+' is created by the script 'scripts/setlocalversion' and if you really 
want to get rid off it, you need (a) to make the git tree "clean" or (b) to 
comment out the line 'res="$res${scm:++}"'.

Either way, it's not kernel-package's fault.
