Can you please confirm me the DNS resolution is not enabled? I.e.
/etc/default/ntop
contains
GETOPT="-n 0"
?

The current version of ntop crashes when DNS resolution is enabled.

In case it is actually disabled, can you start ntop inside gdb:
gdb --args /usr/sbin/ntop -u ntop -P /var/lib/ntop --access-log-file
/var/log/ntop/access.log -i eth1 -p /etc/ntop/protocol.list -O
/var/log/ntop -n 0

And when it crashes paste here the output of "thread apply all bt", please?

Thanks,
Ludovico
