I added XFCE to the OnlyShowIn line in /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-*.desktop, and the message went away, so it seems the problem is solved. I still need to run ssh-add by hand before I run ssh in order to avoid writing my passphrase repeatedly. I guess this is somehow related to gnome-keyring.
