And also, kernel module usblp seems to confuse cups, and cups fails to operate the USB adapter with usblp loaded. Ok, what?! That's just broken - either a problem with cups or a problem with the usblp module.
Something should be done there to make cups more robust with the usblp module loaded, recognizing the proper device or otherwise handling whatever might be causing that problem.
