Can you verify this with:

$ grep -A 4 update-inetd /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates

which should indicate something other than `State: 2'.

Also, what is the output of:

$ apt-cache policy update-inetd

What was the command you were trying to run?  Looks like it might be:

$ aptitude install cups-client perl perl-base perl-modules

to install has added the conflict:
