Just 2 examples from my setup: pbuilder --update takes 16 seconds with the default (gzip), and 6 seconds with pigz on my quadcore. The base tar for sid/amd64 takes 91 MB with gzip, and 60 MB with xz. > I assume --use-compress-program has been available for tar since forever? I saw this first many years ago, at least in GNU tar. I'll see if I can get some exact numbers. Regards, Tino -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
