yes I agree, and you might want to join upstream berlios project anyway: https://developer.berlios.de/projects/net-tools/ So you can subscribe to the CVS commit info and even get access to commit. Currently the net-tools 1.65 tag about to be massaged on the cvs repository to be the debian source (it is not yet the case). some patches are missing on the main branch and some patches are in the head but not yet tagged, some changes on the head are not (yet) part of debian because too invassive. I do take care of that, however you can work on the head.
