No, mplayer didn't change, I compile it myself. But I did a git pull and
recompiled mplayer again, as I thought it was its fault, and the newly
compiled mplayer crashed as well. Both binaries of mplayer work fine with old
libmpg123 and with locally rebuilt libmpg123.
