I am using the intel X driver and Xfce4 window manager.
Upon first invocation of the boinc manager, the top line menu items
(File, View, Tools, Activiy, Advanced, and Help) of the Advanced View
are not visible. Only the "F" of File is shown. Using hotkeys
Shift-Ctl-V (change to Simple View) and then Shift-Ctl-A
(change to Advanced View) will redraw the window correctly,
showing the menu titles as expected.
I have made screen shots showing this and would gladly send them if needed.
