I've just tested this and I can confirm that it happens on Ruby 1.8. However, it does NOT happen on Ruby 1.9. Ruby 1.9 has native threads, while 1.8 uses green threads, what makes me assume that this is a problem related to the Ruby 1.8 green threads. Since Ruby 1.8 is not changing anymore, I am marking this bug as wontfix. If you want to have proper threading with GTK Ruby programs, you should be using Ruby 1.9.
