I can't reproduce this. With a random .it file compressed with either
gzip or bzip2, mikmod plays it fine.

I tried compressing it without the filename being embedded in the
archive, but mikmod played it fine nevertheless.

However, when I unset PATH, then it broke: mikmod relies on PATH to find
gzip/bzip2/etc. So if you still have this problem, please check your
$PATH, and make sure it is correct when you're running mikmod.
