You seem to have misunderstood what this default session is about. If you want to start Xfce, use the Xfce session. The default session is used to run the user .xsession script. To do that, we just use the default argument so /etc/X11/Xsession will default to use that. I didn't yet investigate why we had that warning in recent lightdm version but your workaround is unlikely to fix anything.
