Not quite true, as you can still create connections in nm-connection-editor which are not system-wide. But the new behaviour is definitely annoying. That said, it is something upstream did purposefully and is most certainly not going to change. Please follow up on the existing bug report #642136 -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
